Having a baby is a wonderful time, it fills you with a sense of wonder as you realize you've played a part in creating a tiny human being with unique potential and a whole life ahead of them. While it is a happy occasion, not everyone ends up enjoying the moments and this is true especially for some moms. Experiencing persistent sadness, irritability, anxiety, guilt, shame, exhaustion, loss of interest, and dark thoughts are some of the reported symptoms for mothers dealing with postpartum depression (PPD). It's important to note that PPD is more common than one might assume, and there is no reason for shame associated with it. Understanding that this is a hormonal condition and not a reflection of your character is an important first step in conquering the problem.
