Postmenopausal women who started testosterone therapy had higher rates of heart attack, stroke, heart failure, and related problems than similar women who did not, according to a study summarized in a Menopause Society press release on testosterone and heart risk. The findings will be presented at the society's 2026 Annual Meeting in San Diego, which runs October 20 to 24.
The study looked back at health records and found an association, not proof that testosterone caused the events. Absolute event rates were low, and the release does not say whether the work has been published in a peer-reviewed journal.
