A MAN has been granted bail after police allegedly seized firearms, throwing stars and a trench knife during a child abuse material arrest.
Jarrod Scifleet, 23, fronted Newcastle Local Court for the first time on Friday, October 25, when he was released on strict conditions.
An extensive two-year investigation sparked by a referral from federal police led Newcastle detectives to raid a Kotara home just after 8am on Thursday, where they arrested Scifleet.
During the search, police allegedly uncovered and seized a number of items relating to child abuse material, five gel blaster guns, two sets of throwing knives, a set of throwing stars and a trench knife.
Scifleet was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with 10 offences, including possessing bestiality material and two counts of possessing child abuse material.
He also faces five firearm or weapons-related charges.
He spent the night in custody but was released on bail after facing court on Friday.
Scifleet must abide by a house arrest condition unless with a parent, not have contact with children and must only have access to one mobile phone, among other conditions.
The case was adjourned to December.
Newcastle police launched an investigation in January 2022 after the Australian Federal Police alerted them to the alleged upload of child abuse material via a social media platform.
