Popular Glasgow bar 'attacked by far-right ultras' on day of 'pro-UK' rally

A POPULAR bar in Glasgow has said that a group of “right-wing ultras” attempted to attack it on Saturday.

McChuills bar took to Instagram on Saturday after a “pro-UK” rally was held in the city’s George Square alongside a counter-protest from Stand Up to Racism.

Police have already confirmed one man, aged 40, has been arrested for a hate crime while another was arrested for carrying an “offensive weapon”.

In the post, the bar said: “Earlier today, a group of up to 40 right-wing ultras attempted to attack McChuills. They failed.

“As ever, McChuills stands against fascists and racism in all its forms. This is a place where everyone is welcome, no matter who they support, who they love, who they worship or how they vote.

“With one exception, which we made very clear this afternoon.”

The National has reached out to Police Scotland for comment.

The statement added: “Nobody was hurt and we continue as normal. All events in the bar and venue tonight are now free entry.

“Come on down, have a good night and stand in solidarity with all of us here.”
