Popular Arnold pub unveils plan for new outdoor terrace which could prove 'massive boost'

The landlord of a popular pub in Arnold has spoken of a vision for a new outdoor terrace which he says could prove a 'massive boost' in the summer. David Pears, landlord of the Robin Hood and Little John, said he hoped an expanded outdoor seating area would lead to more customers coming in during the warmer months.

Plans have been submitted to Gedling Borough Council for a new outdoor terrace drinking area above the existing covered seating area at the Church Street pub. Mr Pears said: “I am very excited about it. I have been the landlord here for coming up for seven years and I have been a big advocate for the outside area to extend.

"We have a wonderful little courtyard but doesn’t get the sun for long, so we miss out on the sun lovers in summer. The plan is to build on top of the skittle alley and provide a wonderful sun trap terrace area.

"There will be padding seating on the wall side and then tables, chairs all over the area on top. I personally cannot wait for this. It will be a massive boost for the pub and hopefully bring people to the pub in summer that wouldn’t normally come.

“I think a roof terrace would be ideal for us. We’re really excited, it should bring customers to the pub in the summer. I can’t wait, fingers crossed it goes through.”

The plans include a new metal staircase to access the terraced area. The area would be lit up with festoon lighting on metal poles along with decorative high black balustrading.

The application states that the additional drinking area will help the business to maintain commercial sustainability in the long term. The plans have been submitted by Everards Brewery, which is working in tandem with the Lincoln Green Brewery.

A spokesperson from Everards Brewrey said: “We have currently have a planning application in for the Robin Hood & Little John pub. The application is to relocate the current outside toilet area in order to create more useable space and to generally improve the outside space."

The spokesperson said it would "help give the pub's customers a better experience when they visit”. The application is pending consideration by the borough council.
