Pope Leo XIV has urged the US and European nations to welcome immigrants, in an appeal coinciding with the 250th anniversary of America, and seen as a rebuke to President Donald Trump's anti-immigration policies.
The Pope's appeal came in a letter sent to his home country as he visited Italy's migrant frontline island of Lampedusa.
