The AIADMK’s organisational elections for secretaries and other office bearers at the level of districts will take place on April 19 and 21, covering 75 organisational districts.
On April 11 and 16, polls for functionaries at the levels of panchayat unions, cities, town panchayats and wards will be held, according to a release issued on Wednesday by the party’s coordinator, O. Panneerselvam and co-coordinator, Edappadi K Palaniswami.
The release was issued after a meeting of district secretaries, lasting almost five hours, at the party headquarters in Chennai.
The meeting was said to have witnessed heated discussion between camps led by Mr. Panneerselvam and Mr. Palaniswami. One section of the participants said the former was not for rushing through the process of organisational polls whereas the latter was for completing the process by the end of this month, as committed to the Election Commission. Another section said the possibility of re-entry of former interim general secretary V.K. Sasikala to the party also cropped up at the meeting but there was no consensus between the two camps. R. Vaithilingam, deputy coordinator, upset over the differences, had walked out of the meeting but he returned after getting pacified by his colleagues.
