Pollok complete deal for Calum Gow as Irvine Meadow clear up transfer background

Pollok have completed a deal for Irvine Meadow captain Calum Gow after coming back with an improved offer for the defender.

Ayrshire Football News reported yesterday how an initial bid was rejected with Gow keen to join the Glasgow outfit.

But Meadow this afternoon confirmed an agreement has now been struck that brings an end to Gow's four years at the club.

A statement published on Meadow's social media channels also provided clarity on the background to the transfer following an earlier tweet quoting chairman Robert Jeffrey.

The statement read: "We wish to clarify our earlier posts which were meant to update our fans on the situation as a few had heard of something happening and it's not common for a club captain to leave mid-season.

"For the record, Pollok Football Club conducted themselves properly and acted in accordance with protocols and when their enquiry was received we thought it only proper to advise the player and then dialogue between both was agreed.

"The deal has now been agreed and we wish Calum all the best."

An earlier post had read: "Pollok have made a formal offer for defender Calum Gow. The player has spoken with them and has confirmed to us he wants to leave.

"We have rejected their first offer and await an improved one."

Gow joined Meadow from Clydebank in 2018 and helped them win promotion from the old West Region Championship.

He was made club captain in the summer after Mark McLennan left to join Cumnock.

Manager George Grierson revealed the club were in negotiations about giving him an improved deal for next year before West of Scotland League Premier Division rivals Pollok made their move.

Yesterday's signing of centre-half Isaac Kerr from Whitletts softens the blow of Gow's departure.
