Police watchdog to probe Andrew Tate sex abuse investigation

  • The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is investigating Hertfordshire Constabulary's handling of sexual abuse allegations made against influencer Andrew Tate by three women.
  • A former detective constable could face gross misconduct proceedings for alleged failures to properly investigate the case, while two former detective sergeants are being investigated for alleged misconduct.
  • The allegations, which were first reported to police and closed in 2019 after a four-year investigation, are now subject to a High Court civil trial due in June.
  • The women's legal team is also pursuing a victim's right to review regarding the Crown Prosecution Service's decision not to authorise criminal charges.
  • Tate is also facing legal proceedings in Romania and an extradition warrant to the UK for separate allegations of rape and human trafficking dating back to 2012-2015, all of which he denies.
