Police in Dundee have visited over 160 businesses in the city to deliver a staff protection message.
Officers spoke to owners and employees about new anti-abuse legislation.
The law was brought in to protect them from being assaulted, threatened or abused in the course of their work.
A force spokesman said: “Posters and flyers were handed out at every premises visited.
“If a person employed in retail is assaulted, threatened or abused in the course of their work, where the perpetrator knows or ought to know that the person is a retail worker, this specific new offence carries harsher penalties for those committing these offences than prior to the legislation passing.
“It is never acceptable to assault or threaten someone carrying out their duties. No one should go to work to be attacked abused, or threatened. Don’t accept it – report it. “
The specific legislation is the Protection of Workers (Retail and age restricted Goods and Services) (Scotland) Act 2021.
