Police trying to solve Ann Widdecombe’s missing hours after failing to appear on TV

  • Ann Widdecombe , 78, was found dead at her Dartmoor home on Thursday, 9 July, with "serious injuries," prompting a murder investigation.
  • Her death was announced on Friday morning, following reports that she had stopped responding to messages for a scheduled Channel 5 interview on Wednesday afternoon.
  • Ms Widdecombe's last known communication was a message sent at 12:19pm on Wednesday, 8 July, after which she failed to join a Zoom link for an interview.
  • Police were called to her home by the ambulance service at 11:40am on Thursday, with reports suggesting she was discovered by her gardener or carer.
  • A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday, 10 July, but was subsequently released on Saturday, 11 July, and is no longer part of the investigation.
