Merseyside police have confirmed they are still trying to identify a man found dead in the water at Salthouse Dock.

On Friday, March 25 at around 3.55pm emergency services were called to Salthouse Dock, following reports of a body being spotted in the water. Police cordoned off the scene, close to Albert Dock, while the body was pulled from the water.

Police recovered the body from the water and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. A spokesperson for the force today said 'enquiries are still ongoing to find the identity of the deceased.'

An investigation was launched and CCTV and witness enquiries were carried out in the local area. An area around the dock was also cordoned off.

The cordon included a small section of The Strand, Salthouse Quay, Hartley Quay and Gower Street. Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and the Coastguard were in attendance at the scene.

Dozens of police vehicles including cars and vans, along with a search and rescue unit from the Coastguard were within the cordon.

Anyone with information which could assist the investigation is asked to DM @MerPolCC or call 101 quoting log 641 of 25 March.
