Police are investigating yet another deliberate fire at a troubled Lanarkshire restaurant.
Emergency services were called to the closed down San Vincenzo building on Bothwell Main Street just before midnight on Tuesday, March 1 after reports of a blaze.
Three fire appliances raced to the scene to tackle the fire in the two-storey premises securing the area to keep members of the public safe.
No one was injured during the incident.
The probe comes in a long line of shocking attacks at the restaurant that eventually led to owner Vincent Marini closing his doors in October 2019 amid claims of a targeted campaign and a "sustained effort" to drive him out of business.
A police source told Lanarkshire Live: "Officers are carrying out enquiries after reports of a fire at Main Street, Bothwell reported around 12.05am on Wednesday, February 2, 2022."
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman confirmed the incident, telling Lanarkshire Live that they were alerted at 23.58pm on Tuesday.
The spokeswoman told us : “Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting the ground floor of a two storey property.
“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
Shortly before closing his doors in 2019 a red Vauxhall Corsa was deliberately driven through a large window of the building before being set on fire.
Horrified locals watched as massive 50ft flames leapt from the property.
Thousands of pounds of damage was caused to the popular Italian eatery. leading to the closure. The ram-raid was the third attack on the restaurant in as many months.
In another attack in September 2019 a vehicle was torched outside the property, whilst back in the June of that year a pick-up truck was captured on CCTV as it smashed through a window straight into the restaurant before speeding off.
It had also been targeted by vandals who spray-painted the outside and the roof set on fire.
In March of 2020, the building was listed for sale with an initial price tag of £600,000 but that was later lowered to offers over £500,000.
