Police officer says stealing £2.25 baguette was due to a lack of sleep

  • A former Metropolitan Police officer, Pc David Fyfe, was found to have committed gross misconduct for stealing a sandwich from Pret A Manger.
  • The incident took place on 9 April 2025, when Pc Fyfe, while on duty, took a £2.25 tuna baguette from a Pret in Wood Green, north London, without paying.
  • A Pret employee observed him leaving the store with the sandwich and driving off in a police car.
  • Fyfe admitted taking the sandwich but denied theft, claiming his failure to pay was an 'oversight' due to lack of sleep and a recent argument.
  • A misconduct panel concluded that his actions amounted to gross misconduct and stated he would have been dismissed had he still been a member of the force.
