Police message ahead of Nottingham Forest and Mansfield Town play-off finals

Police have urged Nottingham Forest and Mansfield Town fans to enjoy their trips to Wembley safely. Forest play Huddersfield Town in the Championship play-off final on Sunday (May 29), and Mansfield Town play Port Vale at the same venue a day earlier, for a place in League One.

Forest have sold out their allocation of 36,536 tickets with thousands more expected to watch in pubs and bars across the county. More than 15,000 Mansfield Town fans are expected to make the trip to Wembley on Saturday (May 28).

Nottinghamshire Police say they are aware of how much the matches mean to all clubs involved. Officers will be making sure fans from all sides involved are able to watch the matches safely.

Superintendent Paul Burrows, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "It is fantastic to have two of our local teams at Wembley and our fingers are crossed that it will be a weekend to remember for the supporters of both Mansfield Town and Nottingham Forest. We fully appreciate just how big a deal play-off finals are but it is important all fans behave themselves so that everyone can enjoy the day.

"Once again, our main focus will be to ensure that the good-natured atmosphere experienced at matches this season continues and that all fans are able to enjoy the football without there being any problems. We know that the vast majority of fans will look to enjoy their day and cheer their side on without any trouble, but we will have policing resources available to keep people safe, in the event of crime or disorder taking place.

"It is vital that people don’t allow their emotions to get the better of them and spoil the day for others, as our officers will take positive action against this small minority."
