Police joke over van with sofas sticking out the back on the M1

A van has been pulled over on the M1 by police after travelling down the motorway with sofas sticking out the back. In a post on Twitter at 10.30pm on Monday, August 1, Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit joked that they could not remember why they stopped the vehicle.

"M1. Can't remember why we stopped this," the force wrote. "No insurance either." Before adding the hashtags #SofaSurfing and #BungeeWillSortIt.

Accompanying the text was an image of the back of a red van that was parked up after the van was stopped. The picture shows what appears to be four plastic-wrapped sofas sticking out, with the pieces of furniture only being secured by what looks to be bail twine. The original tweet has amassed more than 200 likes.
