A Greater Manchester borough has been slapped with four police dispersal zones this weekend ahead of a planned 'car meet'. Details for an event taking place in the Hindley area of Wigan have been shared across social media in recent days.
The posts advertised the event as a 'static' car club meet, taking place from 6.30pm tomorrow (February 18). Organisers claimed the event had been arranged with the approval of both Greater Manchester Police and Wigan Council.
But a spokesperson for Wigan Council told the Manchester Evening News that no permission has been granted for the event as claimed. Meanwhile, GMP has issued four dispersal zones across Wigan borough in an attempt to deter the gathering.

One of the dispersal zones covers Cross Street in Hindley - where the event was advertised as taking place - along with parts of Market Street, Wigan Road and Darby Lane. A large dispersal zone covering areas to the west of Leigh - including parts of Wigan Road, St Helens Road and Atherleigh Way - was also announced.
An area including the DW Stadium and Robin Park is also being covered by a dispersal zone, as well as Westwood Way, in Worsley Mesnes. The four dispersal zones were announced by GMP on social media yesterday.
A spokesperson for GMP Wigan said the dispersal powers would be in operation on Saturday, adding that 'motorists are advised not to attend' the proposed meet. It's understood police are prepared for the possibility the event could be held in a different borough to where it was originally advertised.
Police descended on Wigan last month following a 'car meet' that saw 20 vehicles, with two drivers racing each other at any one time. Officers seized cars involved in the event on Redgate Road, in Ashton-in-Makerfield, on January 22.
