Two police officers are injured after their car lost control and rolled while attempting an arrest in central Victoria.

The officers were at a property near Shepparton for an arrest when a man allegedly approached them armed with a firearm just after midday on Monday.

He's accused of fleeing the scene at Katandra West and a short time later the officers' car lost control and rolled on a country road.

The pair suffered minor injuries and have been taken to hospital for observation.

Police say the man travelled to a second residence at the nearby town of Youanmite and switched cars.

No one has been taken into custody and the investigation is ongoing.
