Police 'forced to turn to food banks' as officer left 'unable to heat home and feed child' due to poor pay

The cost of living crisis is hitting serving police officers so hard that they are reportedly having to use food banks. And at least one officer has needed food donations from colleagues to feed her child.

With freezing weather and soaring gas and electricity bills hitting hard, Police in Cornwall took to Twitter to reveal that one officer was unable to afford to heat her home and feed her child. The officer received food aid to help get through the month.

A tweet by the Truro, Perranporth and Tregony policing team insisted: "This is unacceptable." It called for "fair play" for emergency workers.
