The Thai national police chief has issued an urgent order on tightening control over online image of "police influencers", stressing proper uniforms, hairstyles and appropriate behaviour.
Pol Gen Kittharath Punpetch on Tuesday signed a directive on appropriate conduct of police officers while in uniform, addressing to senior commanders nationwide to reinforce standards of conduct and preserve the organisation’s public image.
Nowadays, many police officers perform their duties and appear through public media and social media.
They act as internet influencers to support public relations efforts, strengthen the police image and improve public understanding of police work, which has contributed positively to organisational communication and public engagement, the directive said.
However, Pol Gen Kittharath said that whenever appearing in uniforms publicly, officers must strictly uphold the dignity and professionalism associated with the uniform.
Commanders at all levels are instructed to closely supervise officers in their command, particularly regarding dress code and hairstyles, and to avoid any inappropriate gestures or conduct that could damage the organisation’s image.
They must follow the regulations under the Royal Thai Police’s 2023 rules governing conduct while wearing the uniform.
