Police appeal after man allegedly headbutted and punched on packed rugby international matchday train

Police are appealing after a man was allegedly headbutted on a busy matchday train. British Transport Police officers have issued an image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.

The assault is alleged to have taken place on a train between Cardiff and Pontypridd on the day that Wales played England in the Six Nations last month. At around 11.55pm on Saturday, February 25, the victim boarded the train at Cardiff Central to Pontypridd.

Police say that before the train reached Radyr, the victim was confronted by a stranger who headbutted him to the face, followed by a punch.

A statement added: "The incident took place on a busy service on Wales V England Six Nations match day. Officers believe the man in the CCTV image may have information that could help with their investigation."

Anyone who recognises him is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016, or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 2300021996.

Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
