Poland vs Sweden: Prediction, kick off time, TV, live stream, team news and h2h results - preview

Poland host Sweden tonight with a place at the World Cup later this year up for grabs.

The two sides met last summer at Euro 2020, when Sweden came out on top in the group-stage match, but only one of them will be in Qatar for football’s biggest tournament.

Sweden needed extra-time to reach this stage, beating Czech Republic 1-0 in the semi-final as Robin Quaison struck the winner in the 110th minute. Poland automatically moved through to the final after Russia were removed from qualifying following the invasion of Ukraine.

It’s a similar qualification record for both Poland and Sweden - they have both been at three World Cups since 1994, appearing in 2002, 2006 and 2018.

Here’s all you need to know about tonight’s play-off final...

Poland vs Sweden is scheduled for a 7.45pm BST kick-off tonight, Tuesday March 29, 2022.

The Silesian Stadium in Chorzow will host the match.

Poland vs Sweden team news

Poland were forced into two first-half substitutions as they drew in Scotland last week, with Arkadiusz Milik and Bartosz Salamon picking up injuries, and it’s been confirmed that both will miss the play-off final tonight.

Leeds midfielder Mateusz Klich also misses out due to suspension, while Robert Lewandowski and Wojciech Szczesny should return to the starting lineup having been on the bench at Hampden Park.

Martin Olsson has picked up an injury and will be absent for Sweden, but there is much better news as Zlatan Ibrahimovic returns from a ban and is available to face Poland. Emil Krafth has also served his ban and could feature.

Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski picked up a painful blow to his face against the Czech Republic in the last match, that saw his cheek swell up, but he is still expected to be available.

Poland vs Sweden prediction

There looks to be very little to separate the sides on paper and it could prove to be a nervy affair with so much on the line.

While Lewandowski has the quality to almost single-handedly take his country to the World Cup, Sweden look a more solid all-round team and could do just enough to grind out a narrow win and book their place in Qatar.

Sweden to win, 1-0.

Head to head (h2h) history and results

Sweden have won the last six matches between the sides and have not been beaten by Poland since 1991. It finished 3-2 to Sweden then they met at Euro 2020 last summer.

Poland wins: 8

Draws: 4

Sweden wins: 15
