Pokémon is pumping out all kinds of amazing merchandise to celebrate its thirtieth anniversary. One of the coolest things to come out of this wave of trigesimal goods is a one-of-a-kind G-Shock digital wristwatch, created in collaboration with Casio, that’s loaded to the gills with delicious fanservice.
Sadly, it looks like many Pokémon fans aren’t looking forward to the watch’s July 1st launch. And it’s all thanks to scalpers.

Overall, Pokémon fans actually seem pretty happy with the watch itself. The watch’s face, hands, and buttons rock a Pokémon Red, Blue, and Green-themed color scheme, complete with a dial insert that looks like Pikachu’s tail. The watch’s wristband features art of Pikachu, Eevee, Mew, and all nine starter Pokémon trios. It even comes in a display-worthy Pokéball-themed case.
Unfortunately, a quick look at any X post linked to the watch shows that most of the excitement surrounding the announcement is being drowned out by a wave of scalping-related pessimism.

From the trading card game to special in-game giveaways, scalpers are doing everything in their power to squeeze quick, petty cash out of every fun thing Pokémon tries to do.
It’s too early to know for sure how big a target the Pokémon G-Stock watch will be for scalpers, but given that many fans seem excited about it, there will probably be at least a few scalpers buying up as many watches as they can for resale. The price of one watch is $270, but it may not be high enough to deter those truly dedicated to the grift.
In a cruel twist of fate, only time will tell if scalpers will ruin the launch of the Pokémon G-Shock watch. If we’re lucky, scalpers will have bigger cows to milk, but the odds aren’t exactly in our favor. And that’s genuinely sad, because this is genuinely one of the coolest things Pokémon is doing to celebrate its thirtieth birthday.
