PM Modi distributes over 51,000 appointment letters at 19th Rozgar Mela; highlights India’s global tech rise and youth opportunities

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday distributed more than 51,000 appointment letters to newly inducted recruits at the 19th edition of Rozgar Mela, held across 47 locations in the country via video conferencing. The recruits will be joining various central government departments, including Railways, Banking, Defence, Health, and Education.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said the new appointees have now become “important and responsible partners” in India’s development journey and will play a crucial role in achieving the vision of a developed India.

“Today, more than 51,000 youth have received appointment letters for government jobs. You will all assume new responsibilities in railways, banking, defence, health, education, and many other sectors,” Modi said, adding that their contribution would be vital in the coming years.

He further emphasized that government jobs are not just positions of employment but a responsibility to serve citizens with sensitivity and dedication. “The true strength of any system is its people… Government jobs are a means to make people’s lives easier. Your behaviour, sensitivity, and work ethic will be of great importance. Every young ‘Karmayogi’ should see their work as ongoing,” he said.

Stressing the need to align with rising public expectations, the Prime Minister said the aspirations of citizens are increasing rapidly and must be matched with faster and more efficient governance. “We have to understand the aspirations of our people and work accordingly at an equally fast pace. The role of young people entering public service has become very important. You must keep learning continuously,” he added, highlighting platforms such as iGOT Karmayogi and modules like Karmayogi Prarambh for capacity building.

Highlighting India’s evolving employment landscape, Modi said a strong culture of entrepreneurship and self-employment has emerged in recent years. “India is the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world, with over 2,30,000 recognised startups. This change is not limited to big cities; youth from tier-2 and tier-3 cities are also showing their strength. The role of women in this transformation is also continuously increasing,” he said.

He also underlined the importance of infrastructure in driving growth and job creation. “Infrastructure plays a huge role in India’s growth story. When villages, small towns, and remote areas are connected to development, the benefits of progress reach more people. In the last 12 years, railways, highways, airports, logistics, ports, and digital infrastructure have expanded at an unprecedented pace,” the Prime Minister said.

Referring to his recent foreign visit, Modi said global interest in India is at an unprecedented level. “I just returned from a trip to five countries two days ago. During discussions with global leaders and major companies, one common sentiment was clear—the world is excited about India’s youth and technological progress. Today, the world wants to be part of India’s development journey,” he said. He also stressed the importance of global exposure for Indian youth, adding that international partnerships are expanding opportunities for them.

Highlighting India’s emergence as a trusted global supply chain hub, Modi cited examples of international collaborations in advanced technology sectors. “The semiconductor company ASML in the Netherlands has an agreement with Tata—this is rare and will create countless employment opportunities and open doors to next-generation technology,” he said. He further pointed to India’s growing partnerships in artificial intelligence and advanced computing, including collaborations with Sweden and the UAE in supercomputing, saying these will significantly enhance India’s technological capabilities and create new opportunities for the youth.

Expanding on India’s industrial growth strategy, the Prime Minister said India is building a complete electronics value chain supported by the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. “Today, India is a major electronics manufacturer… this investment is providing jobs to the country’s youth within the country, fulfilling their dreams,” he said.

He added that India’s development journey is aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, noting that a complete semiconductor ecosystem is being built in the country, with multiple major units expected to place India on the global semiconductor map in the coming years.

He also highlighted infrastructure expansion in sectors such as shipbuilding and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO). “An investment of approximately Rs 75,000 crore is being made. This will greatly help the aviation sector and open up a new sector of employment for India’s youth,” he said.

Rozgar Melas primarily target youth aged 18 to 35, including candidates with qualifications ranging from 8th pass to graduates, ITI, diploma holders, and those certified under the National Skills Qualifications Framework. Job seekers are mobilised through print advertisements, SMS campaigns, social media outreach, and academic workshops across districts.
