Plugged in: watchdogs weigh up laws for uncertain times

Australian households need stronger protection against unscrupulous installers and complex renewable energy contracts, the consumer watchdog has warned, after complaints more than doubled within a year.

But not all emerging social challenges would require additional laws, with issues such as artificial intelligence and volatile fuel prices potentially addressed using existing rules.
