Sony has confirmed that the rumored State of Play presentation is the real deal, and it's happening later this week.
Over on the PlayStation Blog, Sony confirms that State of Play will return on Thursday, February 12 at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm GMT, and it will be broadcast on the PlayStation YouTube and Twitch channels. Not only that, but it's going to be one of the biggest State of Play showcases to date, with a massive 60 minute runtime – which is usually the type of length reserved for the likes of PlayStation Showcase.
While no specific games were confirmed for its lineup, Sony notes "February’s State of Play will spotlight eye-catching third-party and indie games headed to PS5, along with the latest from teams at PlayStation Studios."
I have to imagine the usual suspects like Capcom, and Sega will show up as usual. Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Stranger than Heaven have been strangely absent from recent showcases. Plus, if anyone loves a showcase it's Square Enix, who will hopefully show any signs of life from Kingdom Hearts 4. And if Konami could reveal Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 2, that'd be great.
On the first-party front, it'd be nice to see some more of Marathon, Saros, and Marvel's Wolverine – all of which are set to release this year. And maybe we'll actually see what the likes of Bluepoint Games have been working on since Sony purchased the studio, and remember Fairgame$? Me neither, but that could easily show up this time around too. Plus, Hideo Kojima has been editing a trailer, so a PC port of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach feels like a strong possibility.
