Players prove Destiny 2 can still produce wonders with discovery of poopy pants transmog

Destiny 2 poopy pants and Drifter going oof.

Destiny 2 has entered its long goodnight. Despite earlier assurances that Destiny 2 will "remain playable" for the foreseeable future, the studio now seems to be signaling that its ability to ensure the game's ongoing health is constrained. Even if Bungie and Sony had the will to ensure Destiny 2's sandbox stays fulfilling in its sunset years, they'd struggle to find someone to make it happen—because most of the Destiny team was cut loose last month.

But don't let that convince you that Destiny 2 can't still deliver magic. Even in its purgatory, Destiny 2 is capable of wonders to rival the heights of its prior years of live service—by which I mean players have found a new transmog combo that makes it look like your hunter has yucky poopy pants.

Magnificent.

The groundbreaking discovery in Destiny fashion comes courtesy of @GetGudder on X, who found that pairing the hunter's Scavenger Suit leg armor appearance with the Cobwebbed shader—unlocked at rank 30 in the current premium rewards pass—leaves the player character with an unfortunate diarrheal flair. Maybe you can get away with calling it avant garde?

For the sake of journalistic integrity, I hopped into Destiny 2 myself to confirm the transmog's viability, spending my own hard-earned synthcord savings to unlock the Scavenger Suit appearance just to properly preview the shader. And sure enough: That's a one way ticket to brown town.

You'll need a shortened cape transmog to pair it with, though; otherwise, your cloak will obscure the desired fecal effect. Can you imagine? Going through all the trouble of shitting your pants without anyone being able to see the results? Embarrassing.

As you might expect, the finding has produced plenty of gleeful reactions. "Bro wearing the SH1T-EE5," said one X user. Another wondered whether these were the unlucky alternative to the exotic Lucky Pants.

My personal favorite response, from user @TailledT, presents Guardians with a hard truth: "The ghosts can revive you but they cannot unshit your pants."

While @GetGudder asked Destiny's remaining staff for a confirmation of whether or not the downstairs mistake transmog was an intended use case for the shader, an official response has yet to materialize. For now, at least, it's a heartening reminder that—even in its twilight—Destiny 2 players are still more than capable of entertaining themselves with what remains.

Either that, or it's a poignant visual metaphor for—well—any number of things going on in videogames, really. I'll let you decide.
