Player grades: Bulls lose overtime thriller at buzzer to Hawks

The Chicago Bulls fell to the Atlanta Hawks at the buzzer on Sunday, 123-122.

Hawks rookie AJ Griffin caught a lob pass with 0.5 seconds remaining as he flipped the ball up in mid-air to get the stunning win in overtime.

The Hawks jumped out to an 8-point lead at halftime but the Bulls fought back to force overtime, outscoring Atlanta 32-25 in the fourth quarter.

In overtime, DeMar DeRozan was fouled on a 3-point attempt with just under one second remaining to put the Bulls up by one point before Griffin hit the buzzer beater.

DeRozan led the way for Chicago with 34 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists.

Check out the player grades from Sunday night’s loss below.

DeMar DeRozan: A

DeRozan had one of his best games of the season on Sunday, finishing with 34 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists on 10-of-21 from the field and 14-of-15 from the free throw line. Deebo got to the basket whenever he wanted on Sunday despite the loss.

Zach LaVine: B

Zach LaVine finished with 21 points, three rebounds, and three assists on 9-of-16 shooting from the field. LaVine struggled taking care of the ball on Sunday, committing seven turnovers in the loss.

Nikola Vucevic: B-

Nikola Vucevic was underwhelming in Sunday’s loss, finishing with 13 points, eight rebounds, one assist, and two steals on 6-of-11 shooting from the field. Atlanta’s Clint Capela did a great job of keeping Vooch off the glass, outrebounding the Bulls center 14-8.

Patrick Williams: B-

Patrick Williams remained in the starting lineup despite Javonte Green being back from injury on Sunday. Williams finished with eight points, seven rebounds. one assist, and two blocks in 25 minutes of action. Williams went 0-of-3 from downtown, which his ability to knock down open corner 3-pointers is key for his offensive contribution.

Coby White: B+

Coby White played well off the bench on Sunday, finishing with 12 points, six rebounds, four assists, and one steal on 4-of-9 from 3-point range. White was a team-high +8 on the night as he was a main part of the Bulls’ comeback in the fourth quarter.

Andre Drummond: A

Andre Drummond was everywhere on Sunday night, finishing with 14 points, nine rebounds, and five steals on 6-of-9 shooting in 16 minutes. Once again, Drummond has had a strong impact off the bench from Billy Donovan so far this season.

Derrick Jones Jr.: A

Derrick Jones Jr. may have played his best game of the season on Sunday, finishing with 14 points, two rebounds, two assists, three steals, and two blocks on 6-of-7 shooting. Jones Jr. got more run in the loss as Javonte Green was still finding his groove in his first game back from injury.
