Plans to turn derelict Newcastle nurses' home into upmarket apartments revealed

Plans for new plush apartments on the site of a former Newcastle nurses’ home have been proposed by developers.

The regeneration project by Jomast Developments could lead to the creation of 57 one and two-bedroom private rented properties developed at the old Angel Heights nurses’ home on Westgate Road, and an existing brownfield site attached to the rear of the property. The plans are set to be outlined at a public consultation launched this week.

Angel Heights originally opened in 1925 to provide accommodation for nurses working at the nearby Newcastle General Hospital but the grand building, which has more than 50,000sqft of space on a 1.38-acre plot, has been vacant for several years and is now in a poor state of repair. Jomast says significant investment could see the site transformed into vibrant, high quality, residential accommodation. A dedicated on-site management team, landscaped courtyard and renovated frontage form part of a package of plans that would also see the existing mature trees at the front of the site retained.
