Plans have been submitted for the expansion of a Knowsley primary school to meet the demand from a huge increase of houses in the area.
The proposals for Plantation primary school in Halewood, were submitted to Knowsley Council this week and include a two storey extension to the existing school as well as permission for the erection of seven temporary buildings on the main school field.
This would create space for 12 classrooms with toilets and a canteen area, according to documents submitted as part of the planning application.

According to planning documents, the aim is to reduce disruption while the extension work is being carried out -with the temporary units expected to be occupied for around 12 months.
The report states that the two storey extension would include: “Extending the main hall for canteen, sports and event purposes, new toilets for children and staff, DDA facilities including changing areas and showers, lift access and suitable staircase access to first floor areas, additional classroom and intervention spaces, and the expansion of the kitchen preparation facilities. ”
Knowsley Council announced in September that £3.7m was being invested in the primary school to increase capacity due to a huge increase in demand from 1,700 new homes being built in the Halewood area, with the money coming from developer contribution obtained during the planning process.
At the time, cabinet member for children’s services, Cllr Margaret Harvey said: “Plantation Primary was the ideal place to commence this investment given the generous site the school occupies, and the expansion plans have been fully funded through the Section 106 contributions that we have secured.”
The intake at the school was increased in September and with the extension planned, the aim is to ultimately have a three class per year intake by 2025.
