Plans for new gym in Ayrshire town are withdrawn

Plans to turn a former trade counter area into a new gym in Ayr have been scrapped.

Ayrshire Live can reveal that proposals had been submitted to South Ayrshire Council’s planning department seeking a change of use to a unit in Back Peebles Street.

According to the planning papers, the proposed operator Bene-FIT Health and Fitness was looking to relocate from its current premise at 5 Elmbank St, Ayr, into the proposed unit in Back Peebles Street.

The plan was to transform a currently unoccupied industrial unit to make way for a 378 square metre gym for strength, fitness and cardio training.

However, the proposals, submitted by GlenEtiveProjects, have been withdrawn.

Ayrshire Roads Alliance had previously opposed the proposals, saying: “The proposed change of use increases the parking requirements to 19 spaces.

“Without an adequate parking layout or justification the ARA must recommend refusal.”
