Plans for new Falkirk pump track approved after community campaign

A new pump track for the village of Westquarter came a step closer to reality after planning permission was approved by Falkirk Council.

Planners agreed that the fun new cycling facility will "enhance the recreational value of the area" and would be far away enough from houses that it would not cause any problems.

The pump track is being built with £40,000 funding from Falkirk Council's Community Choices fund after a group of young mums got together to drum up support for the bid.

Laura Macdonald, Emma Donnelly and Shannon Donnelly were so determined to secure some new play equipment for the area that they delivered leaflets to hundreds of houses asking people for their support.

They felt that a pump track would be something that both younger and older kids, including teenagers, could use.

A second bid, this time to get new play equipment in the Bing Park in Redding, was also successful, securing £77,000 of funding.

Seven letters in support of the Westquarter planning application were received by Falkirk Council, with no objections and work is expected to start soon.
