Falkirk Conservatives have welcomed the news that Liz Truss will be the new Prime Minister saying it is "good news for Falkirk".
Ms Truss was elected as leader of the Conservative Party, following a ballot to choose a replacement for outgoing PM Boris Johnson.
The former Foreign Secretary won the ballot of Conservative members with 57 per cent of the vote against the 43 per cent for former Chancellor Rishi Sunak.

In particular, the local party welcomed the commitment that Ms Truss made on the campaign trail to Scotland's place in the United Kingdom.
James Kerr, leader of the Falkirk Conservative council group, said: “Liz's election as Prime Minister is good news for Falkirk.
"Under Liz's leadership, the UK Government will continue to directly invest throughout the Falkirk area through the Levelling Up and Shared Prosperity Funds.
"She has an incredibly full in-tray, but as former Foreign Secretary she has cabinet experience and will hit the ground running.”
Responding to the news, Cllr Cecil Meiklejohn, SNP group leader on Falkirk Council, said: “This is a good day for Liz Truss – while I wish her the best in deploying her new role, there cannot be delay in addressing the significant cost-of-living crisis impacting households in every community.
“We have heard much talk of doing something, it is now time for the new Prime Minister to spell out exactly what that means. This is a humanitarian crisis requiring an effort and response similar to that deployed during the pandemic.
“People in our communities need support now. While our political differences are clear, the least I would expect is for the new PM to recognise the serious issues we face right now. The costs of energy, food and basic provisions are almost out of reach for many, urgent action is required to ensure that no-one is left behind.”
The Labour group on Falkirk Council are also urging Ms Truss to work to combat the cost of living crisis immediately. They say they would ask the incoming Prime Minister to "work together properly with Falkirk Council and all local authorities to combat the cost-of-living crisis".
Deputy Labour group leader Councillor Euan Stainbank said: "Local governments can provide immediate assistance to local people, and we need the proper resources to reach everyone who will be impacted.
"Furthermore, we are concerned about the lack of effective measures proposed by this Conservative government and would implore her to back the Labour plan to freeze the energy price cap immediately.
"It is our belief that this only further highlights the need for a fresh start with a Labour government representing the best interests of all of the people of the UK."
