The latest phase of a huge new housing development at a former RAF airfield has been given the green light. The seventh phase of Omege South has been approved by Warrington Council which will include the building of 183 homes and 12 apartments on the former RAF Burtonwood airfield site.
This latest approval comes after outline planning permission was given the go ahead in December 2020 deliver up to 617 homes on residential phases four to seven of Omega South. The new builds, from Bellway Homes Limited and planning consultancy Lichfields, will include a range of two and two and a half-storey detached, semi-detached and terraced residential properties, as well as a three-storey apartment building.
Each property has a dedicated parking space with access via a new and recently completed road to the south of the development. This latest phase is part of the £1bn 'Omega project' which seek to address the need for housing in the area.

The wider Omega development is a major regional regeneration project, delivering new houses and community shopping and leisure facilities, set within 35-acres of landscaping, woodland, parkland and wildlife on the site of the former RAF airfield. Work on phase seven is due to start onsite as soon as possible, creating a number of new jobs in the construction and local supply chain industries.
Clover Long, senior planner at the Manchester office of Lichfields, says the new homes will make a significant contribution to housing needs in the area. “This new phase of development will deliver sustainable, accessible housing, in close proximity to good local services and facilities in Westbrook and Great Sankey," she said.
"We are delighted approval has been granted and now look forward to a range of housing types, tenures and sizes across the market and affordable sectors being developed. We continue to work with property developers and local planning authorities across the North West region to ensure schemes like this one are both viable and a welcome addition to local areas, contributing towards providing high quality homes for local people."
