Planning application submitted for new Glasgow development

Build-to-rent firm Dandara Living has submitted a planning application to Glasgow City Council for a new development at Anderston Quay.

Located on a derelict site overlooking the Kingston Bridge, the application includes an alteration to the previous planning permission to deliver energy efficient apartments - and to also feature student accommodation.

The proposed development, designed by Manson, will feature nearly 500 one, two and three-bedroom homes for rent and 490 student apartments, alongside units for commercial use. Associated amenities, located on the ground and first floors, will include a cycle hub, open plan gym, residents lounge and co-working spaces.

Central to the site’s design is the creation of a new urban park for use by residents and the local community.

Rachel Allwood, planning director of Dandara Living, said: “Following a series of public consultations we believe our new application offers a terrific opportunity to create a development that reflects its unique and highly visible location.

“It also helps address the local authority’s desire to double the number of people living in the city centre by 2035 and deliver much needed purpose-built student accommodation, creating a more sustainable and vibrant city.”

A division of the Dandara Group, the business was founded in 2016 and currently has developments underway in Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and Aberdeen.

Already established in England, build-to-rent developments feature properties that are let on secure tenancies and not sold. A comparatively new concept in Scotland, residents are offered long-term tenure, with the flexibility of renting and access to communal onsite facilities.
