Pilot dies after light aircraft crashes into industrial estate in Derbyshire

A pilot has died after a light aircraft crashed into an industrial estate in Chesterfield, police have said.

Derbyshire Constabulary said the unnamed man crash landed the aircraft in Sheepbridge Lane at roughly 9am on Sunday - and that he was the only person on board.

The public has been asked to avoid the area while police remain at the scene to investigate.

Nobody else was hurt.

“Roads in the immediate area are closed and will remain shut for some time while the investigation continues,” a statement added.

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service were also in attendance.

Air traffic tracker Flightradar24 said it last received a signal from the aircraft at 8.03am when it was at 600ft.

The name and age of the pilot has not been made known.

Police added: “An investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.

“His family has been informed.”
