Piers Morgan has sensationally called for Matt Hancock to resign from his position as an MP.
The former Good Morning Britain presenter, 57, told the future I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! contestant, 44, how he should be focusing on his constituents during 'a terrible financial crisis' rather than enjoying a stay in the Australian jungle.
Piers dismissed Mr Hancock's claim he hasn't signed up for the ITV reality TV show for financial reasons - calling the former health secretary's recent argument his appearance in the jungle will connect him with voters 'a load of disingenuous horse-sh**.'
The broadcaster joined the growing calls for Mr Hancock to 'resign immediately', as the public reacts to the news the disgraced politician will be appearing on our television screens every night later this month.
Mr Hancock arrived Down Under last night, after being stripped of the Tory whip earlier in the day following his decision to camp alongside the likes of Chris Moyles, Love Island star Olivia Attwood and royal Mike Tindall while still a sitting MP.
The politician - who receives a £84,144 yearly salary as an elected MP - claims his venture into the world of reality TV is motivated by his desire to raise awareness of dyslexia.
Mr Hancock - who was defended by Good Morning Britain presenters earlier today - insisted he 'wasn't losing his marbles' or had 'one too many drinks' as he tried to explain his upcoming venture on reality TV.
"I want to raise the profile of my dyslexia campaign to help every dyslexic child unleash their potential — even if it means taking an unusual route to get there, via the Australian jungle," the former health secretary wrote in The Sun.
" I'm A Celebrity... is watched by millions of Brits up and down the country," he added.
"I want to use this incredible platform to raise awareness, so no child leaves primary school not knowing if they have dyslexia."
Piers quickly reacted to Mr Hancock's attempt to explain his motivation for going on I'm a Celebrity.
Quote-tweeting MP for West Suffolk, Piers wrote: "What a load of disingenuous horse-sh**… of course you’re doing it for the money, at a time when you should be doing your job as an MP during a terrible financial crisis, helping your constituents and voting in Parliament.
"You should resign immediately."
Many agreed with the star's savage tweet and suggested alternative reasons why Mr Hancock is heading into the famous camp.
"No-one should even watch it. It's disgraceful and so out of touch that itv even approached him. The whole thing stinks. The guy needs removing from his job," one wrote in reply to Piers' original tweet.
Another tweeted: "He's got a book coming out, his version of the pandemic times..it's tasteless & pre official enquiry, so disrespectful to the families..he was found wanting then to say the least &his constituents ditched now for his own benefit. If the bloke was any more useless he'd be Johnson!"
Mr Hancock was forced to quit as health secretary in June 2021 after breaking coronavirus lockdown rules by conducting an affair in his ministerial office with aide Gina Coladangelo.
Reply to Piers on Twitter, one social media user appeared to be more welcoming of Mr Hancock appearing on I'm a Celebrity as they mused: "Isn’t he giving the money to charity? Don’t get me wrong…I can’t stand him and there’s obviously an ulterior motive for him going on the show but many employers allow staff time off work for charity work."
A political ally close to Mr Hancock revealed the politician's reasons for signing up for the reality TV show yesterday and claimed the public figure will declare the cash he receives for appearing on I'm a Celebrity before making 'a donation' to charity.
It's not yet been confirmed how much Mr Hancock will donate to charity or what his official fee for appearing on the ITV show is.
