Piers Morgan slammed for 'unkind' Madonna remark

TV presenter Piers Morgan has come under fire on social media after posting a tweet about international pop legend Madonna. The TalkTV host shared a picture of the singer, who presented the 65th annual Grammy Music Awards in LA on Sunday (February 5), and was apparently shocked at her wrinkle-free apperance.

Wearing intricate braids and a black suit, Madonna, 64, took to the stage to present Sam Smith and Kim Petras for their performance of Unholy at the renowned award ceremony. The Material Girl singer, who herself has won seven Grammys asked the crowd if they were "ready for a little controversy" ahead of their performance.

The singer might have been speaking to the controversy surrounding Sam Smith and their music career, but following Morgan's tweet - which has been viewed by over half a million people - many social media users have come to Madonna's defence.

Commenting on Madonna's look, Morgan's tweet read: "I thought Halloween was in October?" and was followed by a shocked face emoji. Beneath the comment was a photo of Madonna from her night at the biggest music award ceremony in the world.

Fans of the singer clapped back at the message, branding it "unkind". One Twitter user said: "Dearest Piers…@Madonna has… Sold 300 million albums, released 92 singles, sold 100 million singles, sold out 11 world tours, grossed nearly $2 billion in tour revenue, broken 26 world records, win over 300 awards including Grammys and Golden Globes … just saying."

Another asked the journalist "why are you like this?"

Someone else added their plans for Halloween this year, saying: "For Halloween this year I'm going to dress as a tv show presenter (who was once sacked from his newspaper job for printing lies), storming off and quitting because the weather man was a bit mean to him. Sppooookkkkyyyy!"

Other fans spoke up, calling the tweet "unkind" and "quite sad" for a man of Morgan's age, while someone else wondered "Can you tell me what you get out of saying that? Seriously I'm genuinely interested. Do you feel better?"

Other Twitter users couldn't help but agree with the former Good Morning Britain host, with one saying: "Dolly Parton & Cher look great. She obviously has the money and connections to go to the right surgeon. So the only thing I can think is that she WANTS to look like this."
