Piers Morgan gets one over on Erik ten Hag after Laura Woods' savage putdown

Piers Morgan has taken another swipe at Erik ten Hag after Manchester United's late defeat at Arsenal.

The broadcaster has waged a social media war with the current Red Devils boss, who was appointed in the summer. It has centred around Ten Hag's treatment of Cristiano Ronaldo - a good friend of Morgan's. The United boss marginalised the forward before he eventually saw his contract terminated.

United have pushed on in his absence however, putting together a winning run that included a derby day win over Manchester City. Their progress was halted at Arsenal though as they came unstuck late on. Ten Hag does have his outfit poised for a top-four finish, which would be a major improvement on last year.

Morgan though maintains that the decision to let Ronaldo depart will come back to haunt them and took aim at Ten Hag once more after he saw his team lose for the first time since early November - a game in which Ronaldo captained the Red Devils.

He tweeted: "Congrats ⁦ Manchester United ⁩ - that’s what happens when you hire an arrogant coach who disrespects the GOAT so badly he leaves - and then replaces him with someone I’ve never heard of who sounds like an Austrian sausage."

Morgan was referring to United's January recruit Wout Weghorst, who moved to United recently as they sought cover in the final third. He previously played for Burnley, but was out on loan at Besiktas. He's not scored in his two starts with his debut coming at Crystal Palace last week.

TalkSport's Laura Woods, herself an Arsenal fan, had recently quizzed Morgan, not known for admitting he's wrong, on whether he'd hold his hands up if United did finish in the top four. He replied: “When we win the league and when United do not win the league because they got rid of the GOAT, I expect Erik ten Hag to get on bended knee beg me for forgiveness and apologise to Cristiano Ronaldo for the shocking disrespect that he showed him.”

Woods jokingly took a swipe back, adding: "We'll have to explain to him who you are first." Despite United losing out at the Emirates, they are still well placed to secure a spot in next season's Champions League. Currently they're six points ahead of Tottenham in fifth.

Ronaldo meanwhile finally made his debut for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr. The forward, in an explosive interview with Morgan, had previously stated his desire to remain in Europe and turn down the riches on offer in the Middle East, but with a lack of offers on the table made the move earlier this month.
