Piers Morgan has been criticised after calling Madonna a 'grotesque trainwreck embarrassment' ahead of her 40th anniversary world tour. His comments were labelled "unnecessarily cruel" as he took aim at the superstar following her announcement video.
“She’s too old, she shouldn’t be doing this schtick. It’s all over,” the 57-year-old said as he spoke to co-host Jeremy Kyle on Wednesday, January 18. Madonna, 64, revealed the news by taking to Instagram to play a game of truth or dare with her famous friends.
Comedian Amy Schumer challenged her to play "your greatest hits" on a world tour, a challenge which Madonna accepted. But taking to Twitter, Piers wrote: "I think Madonna’s become the biggest cringe-making fiasco in world entertainment."

On Wednesday's episode of his TalkTV show, he also said Madonna "should be put out to pasture" and criticised her for "trying to be a sex kitten when you're in your 60s". Piers then showed a series of X-rated snaps Madonna had shared on social media, including one of her lying underneath a bed with her bare bum on display.
The talk show host said the singer has hit "rock bottom" and suggested she should do her arena shows while sitting in a rocking chair. People quickly flocked to Twitter to criticise Piers for his comments, The Mirror reports.
One person wrote: "She’s the icon. You’re the tragic one, obsessed with her." Others questioned whether Piers would say the same about male performers, as one person tweeted: "What do you think then of Rod Stewart and Elton John still performing when they should have given up live performing years ago?
"Oh I forgot how misogynistic you are!!" Another agreed: "Would you say that about Mick Jagger or Rod Stewart etc... Madonna has accomplished more in her lifetime than you can only dream of.
"She is an icon & the biggest selling female artist of all time, 335 million records sold worldwide. You're a nasty judgemental individual."
Madonna will be heading out on tour later this year and will perform in 35 cities. Madonna: The Celebration Tour will kick off in Vancouver in Canada on July 15 with stops across North America before arriving in Europe where the pop star will perform in 11 cities throughout autumn.
