The race to become a main presenter on This Morning is on and a new favourite has emerged to replace Phillip Schofield, after the long serving host confirmed us exit from the show at the weekend.
At the end of a week that saw him and co-host Holly Willoughby plagued by rumours of a behind the scenes 'falling out' and with bookies tipping Phillip to leave This Morning in a matter of days, the famous hOst did just that, taking to Instagram on Saturday to announce he was walking away from the job that he'd held down for over 20 years.
In a statement posted on his Insta story, Phillip said he appreciated ITV's stance that the situation 'couldn't go on' as it was and added that he hoped the daytime show would go onto 'a bright future.'

As soon as news of Phillip's This Morning departure broke, the book opened on who will replace him and bookies named Dermot O'Leary the clear favourite from the get-go, with all other potential candidates someway behind him.
However, as it's being reported that This Morning editor Martin Frizell wants to pair currently absent host Holly Willoughby with Alison Hammond, it's ex Big Brother star Alison who is the new favourite to succeed Phillip with Betway.
At the time of writing on Tuesday morning, Alison was 6/4 favourite to get the job, ahead of Dermot, who she is hosting the show with this week and Josie Gibson on 7/1.
Other big names in the odds include Rylan Clark on 9/1, Gino D'Acampo on 10/1 and Joel Dommett on 20/1.
At the start of Monday's This Morning, Alison and Dermot paid an immediate tribute to Phillip, with Alison referring to him as 'one of the best.'
