Phillip Schofield reaches out to Holly Willoughby as she's replaced on This Morning

Phillip Schofield reached out to pal and co-host Holly Willoughby after she was forced to miss This Morning on Monday, after testing positive for Covid-19.

The TV host was confirmed to have tested positive on Sunday ahead of Dancing On Ice, and has now been replaced on This Morning by regular presenter Josie Gibson.

After Lorraine Kelly commented that Holly had been "struck down" with the virus, Phil and Josie took the moment to wish her well at the start of the latest show.

Phil, who himself had had Covid-19 last month and was also forced to pull out of both shows, told his friend to get back as soon as she could.

While they didn't speak to her, they did comment she would be watching the show live from home.

Phillip said: "Well we are absolutely convinced Holly and I that having worked all the way through everything, that we might be immune. And then it got me a few weeks ago, and over the weekend it's got Holly.

"So she's tested positive and she’s at home watching, and it's the weirdest thing in the world when you can't do it and you're watching it from home.

"So Holly get well soon. Get back as quick as you can, but I'm in very, very safe hands. So have a good day, and we miss you."

It's likely Holly won't be on for the rest of this week, after she was forced to miss Dancing On Ice's semi-final last minute on Sunday evening.

Phil revealed it was hours before the live show that the news came in.

As Phillip opened the semi-final of the ITV series, he said: "As you can see Holly isn't here tonight.

"We found out just a few hours ago that she's tested positive for Covid. I know what it's like to watch this show from home - it is really weird. Holly, get well soon, lots of love."

ITV had also shared the news earlier in the day, with it too short notice to draft in a replacement to host alongside Phil.

A spokesperson for Dancing on Ice said: "Unfortunately, Holly Willoughby is unable to host tonight's show after testing positive for Covid-19.

"We look forward to Holly returning for the Dancing on Ice Live Final."

Holly will be back to present the live final of the series which will air later this month.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
