Phillip Schofield has been criticised after he made a 'cutting remark' to a vulnerable This Morning caller who phoned resident agony aunt Deidre over her stressful family situation.
The caller at hand appeared to be having some technical difficulties at the beginning of the call as hosts Phillip and Rochelle Humes asked is she could hear them a number of times.
After eventually getting through to the This Morning hosts, the caller greeted Phil, Rochelle, and agony aunt Deidre - but not before she choked up and coughed down the phone before explaining her situation.
After hearing the cough, Phillip jokingly mocked the This Morning caller, suggesting that she should call the doctor for an appointment after the on-air blunder.
"Seems like you should be the one calling the doctor for yourself," Phil quipped.
However, his remark wasn't taken lightly by some This Morning viewers, who flocked to Twitter to call out the presenter.
"Phillip Schofield must not realise how insensitive he is sometimes. That poor woman is having a horrible time," one viewer tweeted.
"Ugh Phil being as compassionate as ever," another echoed.
"God forbid someone coughs on live TV," someone else tweeted.
"Ah feel bad for that poor lady calling in about her elderly parents. I can relate and it's so difficult. More compassion needed there," another This Morning viewer shared.
Despite Phillip's joke being taken up the wrong way by some This Morning viewers, it seemed he redeemed himself when he kindly gifted the next caller a weekend getaway with her friends.
The distressed This Morning fan had called in to ask Deirdre advice on her marriage as she confessed that her husband no longer compliments her, and didn't even wish her a happy birthday on her birthday today.
After hearing her heartbreaking story, Phil decided to kindly take it into his own hands to treat the caller to a birthday gift as he said that he is sending her and friend off on a spa retreat - without her selfish husband.
"Awwwwh I take back everything I said about Phil haha. So sweet of him to send that woman away. She deserves it," one This Morning viewer tweeted.
"Cute of Phil to gift that lady a weekend away. Her husband sounds EVIL," another echoed.
"I'm going to have to start calling into This Morning with fake scenarios to get free holidays," someone else quipped.
