Philippe Coutinho and Pep Guardiola make Liverpool admissions before Man City title clash

On the final day of a remarkable Premier League season, here is your Liverpool FC morning digest for Sunday, May 22.

Philippe Coutinho reveals Liverpool messages and makes transfer claim ahead of Man City title clash

Philippe Coutinho has revealed he has received messages of support from a number of Liverpool fans ahead of Aston Villa's Premier League clash with Manchester City on Sunday but insists he is only focused on helping his new club.

The Brazilian midfielder arrived at Villa Park on loan from Barcelona in January, a move which has since been made permanent, and he will be part of the Villa side this weekend hoping to do his former employers Liverpool a major favour in the title race, along with fellow Reds old boys Danny Ings and manager Steven Gerrard.

Liverpool require three points against Wolves at Anfield but are also counting on City's opponents to take at least one point at the Etihad Stadium to stand a chance of winning the title on the final day of the season.

And previewing the match with City, Coutinho told Daily Mail: "I only care about my new club. I want to play well for them. I have had a lot of messages from Liverpool fans on social media but I don't look at it that much anyway. My focus is only on the games we have."

'Players are not stupid' - Pep Guardiola sends blunt Man City 'complacency' message to Liverpool

Pep Guardiola has praised Liverpool for preventing his Manchester City team from suffering from 'complacency'.

Going into the final day of the Premier League season, City lead Liverpool by a single point, with both teams already assured of a top-two finish for the third time in four seasons.

Should Jurgen Klopp's side come out on top by the end of today, it will be their second title in three seasons. While for Pep Guardiola's men, they are aiming to win their fourth championship in five seasons.

And speaking ahead of the last-day deciders, Guardiola told Sky Sports: "We have an opponent that brings you through the limits, otherwise complacency will arrive. The players are not stupid, we don’t need to tell them how good they (Liverpool) are. They play against them or they see it on TV, and I said ‘wow, if we want to be there we have to do it’. I think it’s quite similar that they (Liverpool) should think about us.”
