The PGA Championship has confirmed the participation of Tiger Woods in the upcoming event at Valhalla, where the entire top 100 players in the world ranking will be competing. The PGA of America aims to uphold its reputation for hosting the strongest field among the four majors, although this is not a formal requirement.
Special invitations are extended by the PGA to ensure the presence of top talent, with seven players from the Saudi-funded LIV Golf receiving invites. Notable among them is Patrick Reed, currently ranked 92nd, who has secured his spot after a strong performance at the Masters.
Valhalla in Louisville, Kentucky, will host the PGA Championship for the fourth time from May 16-19. The course holds historical significance, with memorable victories by golf legends like Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods.
The LIV Golf contingent includes standout players like Joaquin Niemann and Talor Gooch, who have earned their invitations through impressive performances. Additionally, top-ranked players such as Dean Burmester and Lucas Herbert will also be part of the prestigious event.
Despite the strong lineup, some players have declined invitations due to personal commitments, as seen in the case of Louis Oosthuizen. However, defending champion Brooks Koepka will be aiming for his fourth PGA Championship title, representing the LIV group.
The PGA of America has also extended invitations to deserving players from various tours worldwide, showcasing its commitment to inclusivity. Notable invitees include Tim Widing from Sweden and Kazuma Kobori from New Zealand, both of whom have demonstrated exceptional talent in recent tournaments.
The field will feature 21 club professionals, with Michael Block securing a spot based on his performance at Oak Hill last year. The PGA has reserved two spots for potential qualifiers from the Wells Fargo Championship and the Myrtle Beach Classic, ensuring a competitive and diverse field for the upcoming event.
