Pfizer has announced positive Phase 3 trial results for its oral medication Litfulo (ritlecitinib), reporting that the drug helped restore skin pigmentation in people with nonsegmental vitiligo, including patients with longstanding or later-stage disease.
The findings have generated optimism among researchers and patients because vitiligo has historically been difficult to treat, particularly when depigmentation has been present for many years. According to Reuters, the results suggest Litfulo may become the first oral treatment approved specifically for nonsegmental vitiligo if it ultimately receives regulatory authorization. Pfizer said it plans to submit the data to health authorities for review.
