The Tennessee Titans are expected to be very busy in free agency this year, as the team is set to have among the most cap space in the NFL one year after being strapped for cash.
With so much cap space, the possibilities are endless for who the team might bring in, but if you ask Pro Football Focus’ Gordon McGuinness, he has one ideal player in mind.
According to the PFF scribe, the Titans should pursue San Francisco 49ers edge rusher Chase Young.
Young is coming off the best season of his NFL career, garnering a 75.8 PFF pass-rush grade and racking up 66 quarterback pressures from 480 pass-rushing snaps. But it wouldn’t be a surprise for him to take a one-year, prove-it deal rather than sign a long-term contract with a lower ceiling. He was better with the Commanders than with the 49ers after the in-season trade but still recorded 28 pressures from 233 snaps with San Francisco in the regular season.
The former No. 2 overall pick was plagued by injuries in his second and third years, but he was finally able to stay healthy in 2023, appearing in 16 games, seven of which came with the Washington Commanders before being traded.
Young tied his career-high sack total with 7.5, with just 2.5 of those coming as a member of the Niners.
The 24-year-old would no doubt be an intriguing addition and would serve as a replacement good for Denico Autry if he moves on in free agency, especially considering Young is nine years younger.
As McGuinness points out, Young’s stock is not exactly at its highest, thus he may seek a one-year prove-it deal to put himself in position for a massive payday in 2025.
According to Spotrac, Young’s estimated market value comes in at $13.6 million annually over two years, which would definitely be a reasonable price to pay.
