Justin Bieber has been branded "petty" and "childish" as he appeared to hit out at his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez amid her reported feud with his wife Hailey Bieber.
The singer hosted a big birthday bash over the weekend as he celebrated turning 29 with his friends and family, but fans have been left confused by party favours he handed out to guests.
Justin gave his loved ones silver lighters which were engraved with the words: "I'm so thankful that I didn't end up with what I thought I wanted."
People have now taken to Twitter to speculate that the phrase is a dig at 30-year-old Selena.
"Pretty childish ..29 going on 14 .. jeez," one person wrote.
Another said: "Their whole world revolves around selena gomez. you are 5 years into marriage and still your ex is the main topic on your birthday?
"Imagine if it was selena doing this, they would call her obsessed."
A third person tweeted: "This is so petty, I mean if that's the way you and your wife feel keep that petty sht to yourself lol and please, you don’t have to mention somebody's name or say 'who' to understand exactly what they talkin abt."
Other people jumped to Justin's defence, with one person explaining: "I adore selena but this is a reach. the lighter refers to the fact that he’s thankful he stayed alive and made it this far to reach 29."
Another agreed: "Im not usually one to defend this man but there are soooo many things that quote could mean.
"Its kinda dumb to assume its about selena when hes struggled with depression and the quote is probs referring to the fact that he made it to 29."
A third person said: "JESUS CHRIST stop involving Selena into this, there's nothing to do with her."
Selena and Hailey have been caught up in the middle of fan speculation that they're embroiled in a feud.
Footage of Hailey mocking Selena's pal Taylor Swift recently resurfaced on TikTok, with Selena commenting on one video: "So sorry, my best friend is and continues to be one of the best in the game."
Selena's fans have since started labelling Hailey a "mean girl" and have been trolling the model on social media.
Hailey's close friend Kylie Jenner also sparked speculation that things were not good between her and Selena in a post about eyebrows.
Selena showed off a new look on TikTok with feathered eyebrows, writing: "I accidentally laminated my brows too much."
Kylie then shared a photo of her own brows on her Instagram Story, writing: "this was an accident ?????," which fans took to mean she was "mocking" Selena's video.
However, Kylie has denied the accusations.
Responding to comments, she wrote: "This is reaching. No shade towards Selena ever and I didn't see her eyebrow posts. You guys are making something out of nothing. This is silly."
Selena agreed and added: "It's all unnecessary. I'm a fan of Kylie's."
