'Petrified' dog found collapsed after being abandoned on roadside in Derry

A dog was found collapsed in a Derry industrial estate after being abandoned on the roadside, sparking outrage from the general public.

The dog - who has now been named Todd - was discovered by a member of the public in the Skeoge area of the city on February 12.

They contacted a local Derry-based shelter where the "petrified" dog was later transported.

A spokesperson for Pet FBI, who are based in Pennyburn, said Todd would now receive the care he needs but that his "emotional wounds will take longer to heal".

The spokesperson added: "To the owner of the silver Ford Focus that put this wee mite out in Skeoge at 6.30 yesterday morning and drove off, we hope you roast.

"Todd as we’ve named him is understandably petrified and doesn’t know whether he’s coming or going.

"We got a message from a member of the public before 7am who saw the abandonment happen and another at lunchtime to say he was found collapsed at Foyle Fruits in the industrial estate. We are eternally grateful to these two people.

"This wee man has exactly one tooth left in his mouth and it’s infected and disgusting."

"There is absolutely no excuse for this cruelty. There are 4 local rescues and to dump out any animal and drive off on them is unforgivable

"Todd is safe in our care and will get the vet care he needs but his emotional wounds will take longer to heal."

Pet FBI added: "Despite his fear, he’s the sweetest little man and has shown no aggression. He is very nervous around men but we hope he can overcome that with love and patience.

"Welcome to the beginning of your best life wee man, you will never know suffering again."

Todd underwent surgery on February 17 and now the non-for-profit organisation are appealing to the public for help with his vet bills.

They've asked people who can contribute to do so by clicking HERE or contacting Drumhoe Vets.
