Peter Schmeichel slams Paul Pogba for showcasing biggest Manchester United problem

Peter Schmeichel has slammed Paul Pogba for showcasing a major Manchester United problem against Burnley.

After three months on the sidelines with a thigh injury, the World Cup winner made his comeback for United in the FA Cup on Friday night and followed it up with a first Premier League goal for 12 months upon a return to top-flight duty last night.

Pogba conjured up a smart finish early on before United were pegged back by the rock-bottom Clarets.

The 28-year-old was generally one of the better performers at Turf Moor, as well, but United icon Schmeichel says Pogba ought to have done more and that his inconsistencies typify what's going wrong at Old Trafford and beyond this season.

Having started in a midfield three with Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes, the Frenchman was trusted to be a solitary sitter during the closing stages.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, the former United goalkeeper said: "I said before the game that Pogba played fantastic on Friday night. If Pogba plays like that we want to keep him, we desperately want to keep him.

"But he was completely out of the [Burnley] game and you can't have players doing that.

"That's not good enough for Man United. You've got to have a very, very high low-level and at a minimum you've got to perform to that.

"You've got to have this type of urgency and understanding of when you need to push forward to get a goal you need. In the last 20 minutes, the way Man United played was all in the same tempo and all in the same pattern."
